Parma’s Scarpettas’ title-winning goal came after the Pope’s money helped the team win the Serie A and Champions League, according to his wife.
Francesco Scarpittas’ goal was the only goal the Biancocelesti conceded this season.
“I was very happy to see it in the stadium, because it was my goal,” Scarpatti told Radio Scarpita.
“He gave me his blessing, he bought me the jersey, and we were so happy.
We were in the air, I had the ball, he had the goal.”
Scarpitta added: “It was the best moment of my life.”
The Giuseppese team are now looking forward to the Champions League semi-final against Bayern Munich.
“We’ll be happy to face them,” Scarmittas added.
