When you want to grow your own weed, you have to get it from a licensed grower.
But you also need to find a grower with the expertise to get the job done.
Here are six tips for getting your own pot.
The first thing you want when you’re shopping for a grow house is a good grower, said Jason Buehler, a former grower and owner of a medical marijuana business in California.
If the company that you’re considering has the equipment to grow medical marijuana, you’ll be able to get some great deals.
“The good ones can get a price you can live with,” Buehl said.
Know your product.
When you get a call from a potential grower asking if you can grow cannabis for their business, the best way to avoid being tricked is to be specific about what you want.
Buellers recommend asking the grower what they want their product to look like and whether they plan to use their products in a lab, and how they intend to distribute the product.
Don’t expect to walk into a grow room.
Most of the time, a grow center will only have access to a few grow rooms.
They don’t have the ability to take the product home, and there’s no guarantee that you’ll find someone who’s willing to help you.
“You want a grow that has a clear path, a good atmosphere and a person who understands the product,” Bueshler said.
The best way for growers to get into the marijuana industry is to work with people they know, said John Sisley, the founder and CEO of Hemp, a cannabis-focused startup in Portland, Ore.
“It’s not just about a few friends,” he said.
I also encourage you to get involved and find out what you’re passionate about and where you want it to go.”
Don ‘t expect a free pass.
“We’re not going to get away with being able to grow for free, especially when there are regulations that we’re dealing with,” Sisly said.
You’ll need to make sure that the product you want will have a certain shelf life, which can vary from month to month.
For example, if you want a cannabis concentrate to be sold for three months, you may want to find out if the product has a shelf life of three months.
While it’s tempting to buy products from a company that has the capacity to grow, you don’t want to take a chance on a plant that’s not grown by the company, said Tom Stumpf, a founder of Sowthill Farm, a growing company in South Carolina.
“There are people who get ripped off when they buy marijuana from the same company that was supposed to be growing it for a profit,” Stumpff said.
